Nina and phil frilan were also building their own work lives. Nina as a jazz vocalist, travelling all over the world performing. She 's worked with anita baker, ray charles and aritha franklin. Phil was head of a prominent architecture firm in durham, the frelan group. The frelan group became one of the biggest and most prominent black owned architecture firms in the country.
