The Discipline of Time

In Philippians three, Paul says we have to learn how not to ascend like the word tension. He compares the soul to a new kind of leather bag that's really stiff. And it's by desiring and stretching out in anticipation in time that it gets more and more supple. By still being able to anticipate and love something which is not entirely present in your experience. In chapter 30 he calls being stretched out to those things which are before.
