Forest carbon is the most commonly used type of carbon credit, but its developed a bad reputation in the world of carbon crediting. One report found that around 80 % of the forest carbon credits used as offsets in the california capin trade market were non additional. The problem with this particular carbon crediting project was that doctor cannam didn't think the forest was really sequestering the amount of carbon it was being credited for. But i take charles cannam's point that purchasing carbon credits reduces the pressure on a company to de carbonize.
