The Adjustment for Insulin Strategy to Clear Ketones
If you have mild or moderate ketones, it's either a five, 10 or 15% of that total daily basal that you calculate and then you add that on to your corrective dose. With ketones present, that correction is not going to bring the blood sugar down as effectively, but your ketones are not going to get cleared well. If we're saying mild ketones, let's say you need 5 to 10%, let's say your total daily dose is of basal is 10 units a day. 10% one extra unit. So you're going to add on to the two units of corrective insulin, the one unit to bring your ketones down along with the dress the high.
