The Negative Cake

The Babylonians and ancient Greeks were unable to get to the stage of negative numbers. If your concept of reality consists of objects you can measure and count, it's hard to imagine going below zero. In India in the 7th century AD came a breakthrough - there is no such thing as a negative cake. The problem is if you are using objects to describe maths, what is a minus a third? It's this kind of interesting absence of a cake that when you add a third of a cake to it, there's nothing there.
