The Life of a Teacher
When her mother died in 1889, Catherine became the lady of the house. Her father suggested that she follow in her mother's footsteps and attend college. She studied at Oberlin College, one of America's first schools open to both African Americans and women. After graduation, she primarily taught Latin and history, which we can all agree is very cool.
