The Satipatana Suta and the Other Foundations of Mindfulness
In the Satipatana suta there are four objects of attention, the body, bodily sensations, the mind and mind objects. Different Vipassana traditions put emphasis on differently on these different aspects. The Gawenka tradition that is based on his Burmese teacher Uberkin put a lot of emphasis on the body and bodily sensations. For them it provides a way to connect with themselves. But for those who are interested in the more therapeutic side of the practice, which a lot of people in contemporary society are interested, this focus on the body provides a sense of anchor.
