In pre season you want em because there's a lot of guys just out there getting their wind sprints in, not really earning targets so that the kicker can beat those guys. In the regular season, it's tougher for the kickers to beat these guys. For every five seconds difference in terms of per play, a team runs about 15 plays more per game.
