I'm a word nerd, like I claimed earlier, and I'm very interested in where a certain word starts and gets brought into things. But that said, language has changed. Meanings have changed. And we do it through these incremental steps we take as speakers when we start using something in a new case. So for example, I might be an adult and I might not have ever been adulting, but my daughter who's a teenager always tells me how much adulting sucks. She is taking a word and extending its meaning. It expands because we have needs that we need to fulfill.
