The Transistor - The Most Important Invention of the Information Revolution

This week on Friday, all of us should be celebrating the moment a physicist Walter Bratton passed electric current through the world's first transistor. Like fusion, the basic groundwork had been laid during World War II in radar but here was the crude, electrically driven switch which is the basis of all electronics today. The transistor certainly has to be ranked right up there with the most important inventions of the 20th century, including Gordon Moore.
