Shachenko was a soldier sent to serve in Kazakhstan. Unlike other Russian soldiers who treated them like savages, he treated local people like something exotic and something very touching. He is compared to the national Kazakh artist because he was the first to represent this country, this area, Asian culture with Western civilization. His paintings were like Google pictures for European people.
