In the medieval world, there was an option for women to be religious authorities. That really starts to go away after the Reformation. And as I said, it's not like gains or losses for women. But it also puts a cap on what they can do that wasn't there in the medieval world. The Bible becomes more accessible because there's more of it and it's being translated more frequently into vernacular languages.
