The Biosphere 2 Experiment
Bacteria in the soil essentially had a massive party, exhaling carbon dioxide. The imbalance had an immediate impact on the people living inside. Lobsters and octopus became extinct and pigs ended up being slaughtered because they were eating too much. On September 26, 1993, exactly two years after the Biosphere 2 experiment began, several thousand visitors gathered outside to welcome back the eight men and women.
