Exactly. That was, that was a more recent one. Yeah. Like if, if you're engaging in self-destructive behavior, like what is going to make somebody stop? Like it's, it's, they're going to stop when they have experienced enough pain or enough heartache that the cost becomes too great and they'll eventually stop. But no amount of intervention from other people is going to make that happen.

I could have sworn I read it in the book because I thought it was so good because it feels so intuitively right. But the point you're making is right from the outside, like you don't know where, where that point is, where the elevator stops and they're ready to make the change and your, that powerlessness. I feel like that's such a, it's a brutal feeling to, to watch that from the outside and maybe to a watch, to understand that others are probably, in some cases, watching you, right? On your own journey and they're like, well, you should make these changes, but your elevator has to keep going until you hit that, hit that point. So you really feel like there's, there really nothing you can do from the outside. Like it's all just, there

was a, there was a guy here at Merle Beach that I was friends with. He was a very successful guy, had some money, had a family and sort of like late in life, like he developed alcoholism, which is kind of weird because, you know, most people, if you're a drunk, you start when you're like in your teens or twenties, but he, he really started when he was in his forties and he lost his job. He lost his family. He ended up living in the worst neighborhood in town with all the crime and all the bad stuff. And you know, I'm sort of watching this from the outside and I'm like, you know, when is he going to figure it out? Like he's living in a slum with all this crime and like, when is he going to say, okay, like I've lost everything I need to, you know, clean up my act. And that elevator just kept going down and down and down and he died.
