The Bed of Wear

Throughout the Middle Ages and Renaissance, Europeans rarely slept alone. Travelers and guests were invited to share the family bed. Infants slept in cradles with amulets made from coral or wolf's teeth. Strict rules of etiquette governed who slept where - sleepers were often separated by age and gender. The great bed of wear is one of the most impressively large beds to have survived from this period.
