Did the Chinese Leadership Agree to Hitch Their Wagon to Russia?

The chinese state is always happy to kick nado, especially after nado came out and sort of took a line against china as a potential new rival. But i also heard you say that they were still calebrating their response as this was happening in real ime. Does that indicate to you that they weren't prepared for this to happen, or they were surprised, as we were in the west, in some degree, that this war occurred? This is the big question, right? How much did the chinese leadership know before the invasion? And either answer is not very flattering.
