The Importance of Emotional Need in Writing
If we write with a tangible object without feeling the need, our writing is going to feel thin. The audience for reasons that are very hard to explain intellectually, you're going to go, I didn't like him. We cannot write without both. In this case, Otto demands that he's going to cut his own rope. If you don't send that kid over to help, help, right? Then we never get to watch Otto make all these decisions will never understand how badly he wants the rope. And we will certainly not ever understanding how badly he needs the emotional needs. These pieces end up functioning together. Together they reveal the how of Otto and we get him at that moment.
