When I started my research in graduate school at Penn and then as an assistant professor at the University of Virginia, originally I thought that reasoning and emotion were both inputs into moral judgment. That's kind of a dual process model. And Josh Green is the main proponent of such a model. But I kept finding that sort of the people's gut feelings tended to drive the reasoning. So that's moral dumbfounding.
