The Athenians and the Delian League Fleet
Athenians received an invitation from Inaros, a charismatic Libyan prince, who stirred up the Egyptians to revolt from the Persian Empire. The Athenian fleet then landed at Agina and led by Lea Kratis, they placed the city under sea siege. They probably felt compelled to aid Egypt because the Egyptians provided the greatest source of grain in the Mediterranean area. This campaign may have been an attempt to put pressure on the Persians, to either resume or begin peace negotiations.
