The Rise and Fall of King William
In 1067, King William appointed Torold as the new abbot of Momsbury. When he rode into Peterborough with 160 fully armed knights, it was telegraphing to everyone that Torold wasn't here to govern. The chroniclers were so appalled by Torold's behavior that we actually have a pretty good view of him.
