For many cultures outside of europe, these centuries are actually some of the most significant ever. China was going through one of its many periods of territorial expansion and cultural growth. The mayan civilization was reaching the peak of its classical period. All of this is to say that there was a lot going on in those years. So the phantom time hypothesis may have an extremely cool name, but it doesn't really make sense.
