Young people have more of what psychologists call fluid intelligence, which is the ability to think creatively and outside the box. That complements the crystallized intelligence of older workers who have accumulated knowledge. The risk is that an economy that's aging has less innovation and therefore less productivity growth. But there is a countervailing argument on environmental grounds that fewer people is better for the world.
