The PKI and the Outer Islands Revolt
In 1955, you had not only the Bandung conference, but you had Indonesia elections. The PKI were the Indonesian communists. And they weren't so much a doctrinaire communist organization that was totally in the sway of Moscow or Beijing. So it doesn't seem that they were trying to get rid of Sukarno or even break up the islands.
