In a separate reality, published in 19 71, carlos returns to mexico to give don juan a copy of his new book. In the two books that follow, journey to istlan and tales of power, numerous new concepts are introduced. When the next book, the second ring of power, came out in 19 77, castaneta revealed that don juan was no longer among us. However, instead of dying, he turned into a ball of light and entered the nahual, or separate reality with which he was in contact back here in our reality.
