Interpreting for Mum and Dad
Word of Mouth
Introduction
Michael Rosen's father was partly brought up by his grandfather Joe. As a boy he used to sit with his grandfather helping him read an English newspaper. He would imitate his grandfather's accent and tell us how he would explain what the words in the newspaper meant. Since then I've seen children with their parents or grandparents doing just the same. A doctor or nurse talks to the adult and the child, sometimes as young as 8 or 9 or 10, interpreting for them.
