The Life and Career Ambition of Sir Tom Stanford Raffles
Raffles was Lieutenant Governor of Java from 1811 to 1816. He used his position within the East India Company to start collecting material. A lot of that's in the British Museum today, about 2000 pieces. His book Journey's Administration is published in 1817 and he dedicates it to the Prince Regent George IV. As a result, he gets a knighthood; this is when he becomes Sir Tom Stanford Raffles.
