Mary Ann is madly in love with Connell. She has a big crush on him this like hot guy who comes over to her house twice a week to pick up his mom. They start sleeping together but he wants to keep it a secret. His mother finds out that they're sleeping together and he's like shut up I don't want to talk about it. Mary Ann later in the novel talks about abuse both physical and mental that she has experienced and emotional from everyone in her family which then results in Mary Ann thinking that she is worth less than anyone on the planet while simultaneously thinking I am better than you.
