The Importance of Harman and Mest in the Eighteenth Century
Voltaire painted a picture of man which thereupon became the valde macum of every reactionary and indeed every faccious movement in the world. Harman injected irrationality into german romanticism, and by direct various movements which grew out of it,. various forms of nationalism and so forth. Mest provided the kind of machinery with which this poor creature, as drawn by vol could alone be governed. None of these things had foreseen was the possibility of the combination of irrationalism and science. For master, of course, science is the opposite of irrationalism. And of any one who is scientific, is in some sense bound to disintegrate the country in which he lives by resisting
