The CDC Recommendations for Treatment of Syphilis

For primary and secondary syphilis, parentarily penicillin G has been used effectively to achieve clinical resolution. The Jarex-Hirkzheimer reaction is an acute febrile reaction that can occur within the first 24 hours after initiation of any therapy for syphilis. For tertiary syphilis with normal CSF examination, the treatment recommended is benzanthinePenicillin G, 7.2 million units administered as three doses of 2.4 million units I am each at one week interval.
