I Don't Think I'm Smart for This Novel

The voice is consistent enough that i feel like i was spending time with a person. The book wants me to be smart, to get all its references and to truly consider what it's doing the first time through. She also keeps saying, this is how i know a man didn't write this. Why does she talk about translation so much? Is it relat to the inability to communicate ideas? And there's nothing in here about her having to hunt, no yor talks about, she talks about pooping.
