The Earnest Versus Irony as a Writer

CNN's John Sutter asks a writer about the idea of irony and sarcasm. "I see irony as a tool among many other tools," he says, but it can be overused or become a crutch. When people feel that it is more sophisticated to be cynical than appreciate what you've been given, 'that's crazy,' writes Sutter. He adds: There's nothing sophisticated about refusing to appreciate beauty or hard work or love.
