When isahar came in, he initiated this. The new look doctrine was basically that the united states reserved the right to to massively retaliate if they felt its national interests were at stake. It did two things simultaneously. Number onei it's it locked into place the iron curtain in eastern europe. Soviets now could never invade germany because that was vital to our national security interests. Likewise, the americans couldn't go into hungary, because that was in the soviets in a strategic sphere. Now you could create mischief in all these other countries that were not of vital strategic interest to either super power. I tis found no documentation of people looking at the new
