i love the robert benchley line that there are two kinds of people in the world. And it's such a prescient foreshadowing of what psychologists now call binary bias, which is that just distinctively human tendency to take a complex continuum and over simplify it into two categories. i think if we can resist these binaries and see the continuum, or at least a lot of kind of nuance categories in between, it's a lot easier to have a reasonable conversation about polarized issues.
