The Great Arch of La Defence
The Great Arch of La Defence was intended as the official memorial to the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen. You can get up to the top through an outdoor lift, which is not for people who suffer from vertigo. From the top, it's a spectacular view of one of the great cityscapes in the world. The fight was whether Christianity could be acknowledged as one of the sources of contemporary Europe's commitments to human rights.
