The Roman Empire was a fundamentally functional state in the 1st and 2nd century. This is the period that we call the Pax Romana, the Roman Peace. While there were occasional civil wars and conflicts with the Empire's neighbors, this was mostly a period of peace. We're going to discuss how the Empire changed from its glory days in the1st and2nd century - and why the 3rd century was such a disaster.
