Using Microwaves to Heat and Vaporize Rock
Fusion technology as it stands again has been around for 60 70 years and so there's pretty well established theory and manufacturing processes. But deploying those technologies in this rugged field application for geothermal drilling is very novel. And I'd also note that there is very little, not just say, engineering sort of work but even basic more fundamental research into using microwaves to heat and vaporize rock. The only area you would find this is in ablation studies for meteors coming through the atmosphere.
