The Heat Wave in England
England is exceptionally poorly equipped to deal with the mildest deviation from what it considers to be normal weather. It feels like we've built all of our infrastructure to handle a plus or minus five degree variance, but if it goes beyond that, it's just a total disaster. Every year there's a new thing that I'm like, I didn't even know that could be a problem. And yet because the temperatures deviated by one degree or the wind has gone five miles per hour faster than it should have, everything goes wrong. The whole country just grinds to a halt. They always find new things to go wrong. We are in the middle of something quite exceptional. Are we?
