We know that neandertoles took the wresting of deceased colleagues seriously by burying their dead. Do the significant amount of ibex bones surrounding the skeleton symbolize some form of ceremonial burial? Some experts even question whether it was a deliberate burial or not. Neandetoles would have been very aware that leaving a corpse to rot away in your home cave was never going to present any advantages to those still alive.
