The Importance of Public Deliberation
Roxanne Jones: A big portion of what's going on in your book is this history of how certain phrases like rising as far as your towns can take you. It almost seems like public deliberation might be too demanding a term that the public can really deliberate anything, she says. Jones: We'd have to ban Twitter, but so rhetoric, spouting and then what social media does is amplify rhetoric. But also, the speech people take is not simply virtue signaling; it's mere lip service.
