I Think It's Important to Recognize the Community Through a Symbolic Data Award
An honor can have this dual function where it's sort of a giving approval and distinction to a certain person but at the same time whenever you ask someone why did you get this award what does it represent they seem to always say oh well it's not about me individually. I think that shift and who gets on is, which is largely achieved through an expansion of the system rather than through cutting other categories was really popular and for good reason,. But it doesn't fix the problem. It's only a brief moment of feeling good that comes from that it isn't uniting these communities in the way that maybe is the intention.
