Reading Aloud to Children in First Grade

International assessment of 150 thousand fourth graders in two thousand one showed an average 35 point advantage for students who were read to more often by parents. And the results were true regardless of family income. Far from being baby sitting, reading aloud has a rich intellectual history. Some s an advantage of as much as a half year's schooling.
