The Neuroscience of Drug Addiction
At the University of Michigan, I was in Kent Barrage's lab. He is very well known for a theory of drug addiction called incentive salience. So we were interested in these areas of the brain that drove what we generally think of when we call intense or aberrant motivation. The circuit that addictive drugs act on is the circuit that evolved to get us towards adaptive things like food and mates movement.
