i think dorothy picked up from her mother, not surprisingly, the futility of war struck home. She was very conscious of that. Her mother felt that she had a calling to make the world a better place to live in. That also, in a sense, was transmitted to dorothy in some form and that was carried with her throughout her life. Then, i think, wat that's no, the culture of science to day actually isn't very like that.
