The Manhattan Project's Intentional Poisoning of the American Public
In 1943 and 1944, a New Jersey chemical facility was recruited to produce fluoride for the Manhattan Project. A short distance away, peach farmers noticed that their crops were suffering. The peaches weren't the only living thing that suffered once the nearby chemical plant began producing fluoride. Cows, horses, and even the people who ate the peaches grew sick. In 1946, Manhattan Project officials investigated the peach farms to determine if there was any connection between the blighted crops and sickly animals. While there's no official record of this investigation or its findings, a supposed leaked memo dated August 27, 1945, suggests that Manhattan Project officials knew they had poisoned civilians.
