The Complexity of Anti-Fascism in Cuba
Cuba fought for a long time to free itself of Spain and that makes its involvement in the Spanish Civil War a little bit complex, right? Because they're fighting essentially for the country that they fought against. And so there is a lot of theorizing and intellectualizing about how there is both a new Cuba that the anti-fascists are fighting for as opposed to an old Cuba. In that understanding, the old has to do with the colonial past; then we have what we call in Latin American history neo-colonialism.
