The School-to-Prison Pipeline

The school-to-prison pipeline describes the ways in which some young people are pushed from schools into prisons. In UK, particularly areas with high proportion of black and South Asian students it has implications for how schools are stigmatized. School exclusions mean that pupils who are excluded more likely to go on to be incarcerated. Police officers default invariably to their criminal justice orientation so there's a danger these issues escalate and become criminal issues.
