Broadway's Back. Really Important Stuff.

The movie musical was on the rocks by the late 60s, right? The musicals that people were going were drive in movies like surf movies and Elvis movies. More and more modern shows aren't really being written with like leads in mind necessarily or more successful artistic ones are being written as ensembles. I feel like you sort of see the beginning of the death knells when you got a funny thing happen the way the form in 1966 happened.
