For Chinese women, for them to expect the man to be the breadwinner is that the West has moved on in its kind of egalitarianism. China embraced the male breadwinner, female homemaker model before 1949. But after reform and opening up, wealth became conglomerated within the hands of a very small subset of men who became wealthy entrepreneurs. And then women's positions on the labor market and women's wages actually declined.
