Is the World Cup a Good Idea?

I have no doubt actually that in the absence of the World Cup, the Qafala system would not have been dismantled. There is a more liberal progressive element in the Qatari elite arguing that they need across a whole range of areas to reform. And I don't think you would have had this reform without the World Cup. Amnesty's call for FIFA and Qatar to establish a major recompense fund around a billion dollars could be a very doable ask. On the boycott issue, I am in general, I'm for boycotts. But with boycotts, you've got to have a plan and you can't do it at the last minute.
