Why Is It So Important to Be a Scientist?
I think for many people that just discovery is already such a motivating factor in doing it right. I remember understanding Euclid's proof that there are infinitely many primes and the idea that the square root of two is irrational. That's just so rewarding. Find me a surprising number of people who they've heard about the replication crisis in psychology or things like this. They think that scientists need to be policed or that somehow the incentives aren't right. Sometimes they don't understand what an enormous intrinsic incentive there is.
